The colors of the patina are natural, as no harsh chemicals are used in any of the processes.  
The brass/copper blanks are covered by a thin layer of lacquer in order to save the natural color of the patina. 
You can add additional layers of lacquer to further protect the finish. 
The plate of this gauge is perfect for creating a jewelry set (pendant, ring, earrings etc.) or can be used for creating decorative elements for accessories.
